August at Temperate: First Unit Built, Bring on the Second

What we did in August

  • First test data from our TRL5 prototype. Our TRL5 prototype achieved a measurable cooling effect (~4°C drop), proving our system can deliver real cooling. It’s not as much as what we want, but the main goal for this version was to prove we could turn the science into cooling output. Next steps are focussed on maximising airflow and improving our panels.

  • Built another prototype. Instead of rebuilding the full-scale TRL5 unit, we created a new small version to test our key upgrades: improved airflow, better mirrors, and a target of double the per-panel cooling performance compared to July’s prototype.

Plans for September

  • Test the new prototype. We’ll run testing and analytics sprints in September, looking for double the cooling power per panel of August’s prototype.

  • Pitching to AroundTown’s Investment Committee. As the ATechX accelerator wraps up, we’ll be presenting to AroundTown’s IC in September.

  • Research & Refining our Roadmap. As mentioned previously, conversations with customers tell us that improving their existing systems through retrofit is extremely valuable. Right now, our focus is on iterating on the core technology for maximal cooling, but once it’s there we’re investigating whether data centre cooling or HVAC plugins (e.g. cooling refrigerant on the return link) are a better bet for our early pilots.
