May at Temperate: Patent Filed, New Designs & 10 Brave Households
What we did in May
Filed our first patent. It’s official: the first UK filing is in. We’re now protected and can have (slightly) less cryptic conversations about how the tech works. A big unlock as we prep for pilots and partnerships.
Hired Our Product Designer. We welcomed Chris, an experienced hardware designer with hands-on manufacturing chops. He’s already accelerated our development timeline and boosted our confidence in hitting future milestones.
Recruited 10 UK Pilot Testers. Yes, 10 real humans agreed to let us bash holes in their walls. These early pilot homes will give us critical real-world feedback that simply can’t be replicated in a lab.
Joined the Aroundtown Accelerator. We joined ATechX, run by one of Europe’s largest property developers. It’s a highly tailored accelerator that will help us refine IP strategy, manufacturing, certification, and prepare for product extensions.
Plans for June
Complete Our Lab Test Unit (TRL5). We're finalising the first local install of our latest design inside the lab. This unit will allow us to capture detailed performance data and conduct structured testing on our home turf.
Set Up Manufacturing for 10 additional pilots. These next builds will test slightly different versions of the technology to see what delivers the best real-world results. They're designed not just to function, but to teach us. Data, not dogma.
Map Our Technical Roadmap. We’ll be building out our technical roadmap for the rest of 2025, including a financial plan to support it. By the time Q4 comes around, we aim to be at TRL7 with units that can cool a bedroom or living room. That'll also include improvements to the controls, size, and airflow. 18,000 BTUs, here we come.

How You Can Help
We’re a tiny team doing a ridiculous thing. If any of the following rings a bell, we’d love to hear from you:
Know someone who’s licensed tech to a major OEM? We’d love to interview them—just 20 minutes—to hear what worked, what didn’t, and how they got the deal over the line.
Taken a home electronics product from zero to TRL8? We’re keen to speak with people who’ve navigated the path to testing, safety certification, and manufacturing readiness.
That’s it for May. We’re moving fast, learning loads, and building what we believe will be the next generation of home cooling.
