April at Temperate: Patents, Prototypes & a Proper Plan
Hello from the (slightly overheated) Temperate team,
You're getting this because you’ve helped us—by investing, advising, or cheering us on—as we turn a weird and wonderful cooling idea into a real business. Thank you.
Things are moving fast, and we wanted to give you the April update while it’s still hot off the metaphorical press.
As a refresher: Temperate makes cooling devices that use just 5% of the energy of a typical split-type air conditioner. Our first model is aimed squarely at replacing those clunky wall units. If you'd like a recap, here's our Executive Summary.
What we did in April
Locked Our Critical Path. We finalised our key milestones for 2025. These are the major steps we’re committed to on our path to licensing our tech to a large OEM.
Hired Patent Attorneys. We brought on GJE as our patent team and kicked off work on our first application. Once filed, this unlocks our ability to put pilot units in real homes.
Secured Our SEIS Lead Investor. We were selected by **Carbon13 for investment**, which also means they’re leading our SEIS round. We’ve now secured verbal commitments for the remaining £105k to close it out.
Built Our First Pilot Prototype. Fergus is assembling our first working unit at TRL5+. It cools. It runs. It doesn’t burst into flames. That’s a win in hardware.
Plans for May
Submit Our UK Patent Application. We’re on track to submit our first filing in May. Once that’s in, we’re green-lit to install pilots and more.
Finalise SEIS Paperwork. We’ll be working with angels and friends who’ve committed funds to get their paperwork sorted. We expect to close the round in the first week of June. No further equity is being raised after that.
Prepare for Pilot Installs. We’ll begin building 10 additional pilot units in May, ready to install across Greater London in June and July. These will include sensors to measure real-world cooling performance.
Metrics (April)

How You Can Help
We’re a tiny team doing a ridiculous thing. If any of the following rings a bell, we’d love to hear from you:
Live in Greater London and own your home?
Want to try one of the first Temperate units? Hit reply and let us know what your setup’s like.
Experienced in scaling from prototype to small-batch (1–5k units)?
We want to learn your hard-won knowledge. Book a quick chat with us.
Know someone who’s licensed IP to a big electronics OEM, or built home appliances in the UK, India, Brazil, or South Africa?
We’re keen to speak to folks who’ve been there and done that. Especially if they’d make a great advisor or NED.
That’s it for April. We're on track, well-funded, and building fast. Thanks for being part of the crew.
